2nd TEAM Match Report
Saturday 29th October 2005
Hinckley 3rd XV: 13pts V Lutterworth 2nd XV: 50pts
Lutterworth put in a very spirited performance. This was one of the best displays of rugby from the 2nd team this season.
From the kick off Lutts received immediately took the ball straight back to the large and experienced Hinckley team. The first scrum was an indication of what Hinckley were going to face, with Lutts taking the strike against the head. After some continuous pressure from the Lutts side a gap opened for Tom Kiddy to score. This was not converted. The second score came from some superb mauling and rucking from the Lutts forwards and flanker Ben Stretton collected a loose ball and ran in to score the try. Jez Bell converted.
Hinckley was allowed a couple of penalties for Lutterworth not being behind the back foot of the rucks which were dually kicked. Lutterworth’s third score came from some excellent passing and recycling of the ball with backs and forwards alike taking the ball flat and breaking the gain line, and fly half Shawn Van Helsing scored under the posts. This was converted.
Half time score 6 – 19 to Lutterworth.
The second half started just as hard as the first. Very quickly Lutterworth found themselves deep in the Hinckley 22 and hooker Rich Jones took a perfectly timed pass from the fly half to crash through and score under the posts. Mid way through the half Lutterworth went through a dry spell because the referee had had enough of Lutterworth’s infringing at the break down, and the fly half was sent to the bin. This lose of a man allowed Hinckley to come back and after being awarded a penalty on the Lutts five metre line they opted to scrum and then were able to exploit the hole left to score. This was converted.
Lutts managed to absorb the remaining sin bin time and as soon as the fly half was back on the pitch he received a fast wide pass from Jez Bell and jinked his way through the defence to score. This was converted. Lutts next score came after some relentless mauling and a well won line out to steady the ball to allow Ben Stretton to cross the line with very little resistance. This was converted. The next Lutterworth score again was down to some great flowing rugby, with player after player receiving the ball out of the tackle, then near the line lock Iain Faulds put in a perfectly timed off load to full back Simon Donovan coming through at speed to score. Jez Bell converted.
Lutts final score came in the last few minutes when the ever prominent prop Yanick burst through the defensive line to score. This was not converted.
Final Score was Hinckley 13, Lutterworth 52.
