2nd TEAM Match Report
Saturday 29th January 2006
Lutterworth 2nd XV: 15pts v Coalville 2nd XV: 10pts
There was a minutes silence before the start of this 2nd team cup game because Lutterworth tragically lost on of their props the week before in a car accident.
Lutterworth were playing this side for the 4th time this season and this game had more meaning than most. Lutterworth put good passages of play together in the first half but the ref gave Coalville plenty of penalties for Lutts handling on the floor. Fortunately Coalville were not able to gain any advantage from this. Towards the end of the half though Lutts played good rugby and with some outstanding box kicking from Jez Bell were able able to get deep into the Ville half. This allowed the ball to be recycled and after a long pass found full back Smith to swerve a tackle or two to score.
The second half was far better than the first but Lutts still lost a flanker to the bin for handling on the floor and Ville were able to take three points.
Lutts came back with a score soon after when a well worked move gave Lutterworth a scrum 5 meters out and after a solid strike No8 Ben Hustewaite picked from the base to dive over the line to score. This was not converted. When Lutts were back to their full quota of players they were able to assert a little more dominance and after a passage of play which involved nearly all the team a ruck was formed and when the ball was released it was passed quickly down to line to flanker Steve Lamb who popped up on the wing. He ran in the last ten metres and stepped inside the Ville winger to score. This was not converted.
Coalville were able to scrape back a consolation try close to the end when Lutts took the foot off the pedal a little.
Fiinal score 15 – 10 to Lutterworth.
