2nd TEAM   Match Report

Saturday 24th September 2005

Lutterworth  2nd XV: 56pts   Northampton Mens Own  2nd XV: 5pts

From the kick off Lutterworth were on the back foot and within a couple of minutes Men’s Own had a lineout deep in the Lutterworth 22.  The ball went over the back of the line and allowed the visitors to score. This minor set back did not affect the team and they got there heads together and started to work as a team.  The forwards set up plenty of excellent ball to allow the back to link and pass well to see Lee to score in the corner. This was not converted.

Good ball was secured from the kick off and Lutts went straight back at Men’s own with some superb rucking allowed the backs to align and with some deft touches of the ball providing Lutts with another score. Lutt’s pack dominated the opposition in the ruck and maul situation and secured plenty of ball for the backs to play with and with well worked moves and plenty of open rugby Kev Jones went over to score. Lutterworth were running the ball from all areas of the pitch and taking it deep into the heart of the Men’s Own defence.  After a display of fifteen man rugby the ball was spun wide to allow Dudley the score.  Kev Jones converted.

Again from the restart the ball was all Lutterworth’s and quick recycling and good linking with forwards and backs saw another score come quickly, as the pack mauled the ball down the field deep into the 22 and released Jez Bell to snipe around the edge and he was able to link up with the centres to make a dive for the line.  Shawn scoring the try.  This was not converted.

The second half started a lot better than the first with Bull receiving the kick and some quick thinking and powerful running allowed him to break the defence and then passing to Shawn who put in a perfectly time lob pass to Will King who ran in with little effort to score under the posts.  Rob Lemon converted. Two further quick score came from two substitutes Stretton and Smith.  These were not converted.  Shortly afterwards as the visitors were starting to tire some quick thinking from Jez Bell allowed him to snipe for the line to score.  Rob Lemon Converted.

Lutterworth were awarded a penalty in the Men’s Own 22 and Lutts used this to turn the screw further by giving the ball to their South African prop Yanik to crash though the defence to score. The final score of the game came from a well worked move involving nearly all the Lutt’s players and the result was that Stretton went over for his second score.

Final score was Lutterworth 56 and Northampton Mens Own 5.
