2nd TEAM Match Report
Saturday 21st January 2006
Vipers 2nd XV: 5pts V Lutterworth 2nd XV: 17pts
Lutterworth visited local rivals Vipers for the third time this season but this time the fixture was for league position.
Lutts turned out with a very strong team and a full complement of reserves for this game. From the start the pace was frantic. Play changed ends very quickly. The first score came from vipers when they broke the defence and scored under the posts. This was converted.
Lutts then lost a player to the bin for persistent infringement. Vipers could not use the one man advantage as Lutts dug deep and held the game to half time when the sin binned player could return.
In the second half Lutts turned on the pressure and started to come back hard and were able to keep the penalties to a minimum. The first score came from a strong sniping run from Jezz Bell and then the forwards took the ball on a drove a maul to with in feet of the try line. Second row John Dalby broke from the back of the maul to cross the line. Bell Converted.
A few minutes later when vipers had a flanker sent to the bin for persistent killing of the ball Lutts were able to put the game away. Bell kicked a long range penalty to put Lutts in the lead and a few minutes later after quick recycling of the ball and great lines of running from the backs, fly half Roger Clarke went over in the corner. Unfortunately the low sun in the sky made it impossible for Bell to see the posts for the conversion.
Final score 17 – 5 away win for Lutterworth.
