Lutterworth 2nd XV: 25pts V Aylestonians 2nd XV: 25pts
Lutterworth had a hard fought afternoon but it was Lutterworth that made it hard work. The match started with great potential with the ball passing through many pairs of hands to put Jamie Saunders over in the corner. This was not converted. A few moments later Ben Hustwaite went over from the base of the scrum in the Stone’s 22. This try was not converted. Lutts did not perform to well at the restart and this allowed Stones to take advantage and took the ball deep into the Lutts half. Lutts had to work hard to keep the opposition from crossing the line but Aylestone got onto the score board with a penalty for Lutts killing the ball. They then got a lucky score in the corner after exploiting an overlap in the Lutts defence. This was converted. Just before half time Bobby Williams cut through the defence after a great breaking run from full back Smith, to score out wide. This was not converted.
The second half was hard going. With the two sides exchanging knocks and the rucking was fierce from both sides. Stone’s scored a try after a persistent barrage of the Lutts defence. This was converted. Then Lutterworth came back and off the lineout, the ball taken upfield by prop Ian Jones and then he off loaded to No8 Hustwaite who went steaming through the defence to crash over the line under the posts. This was not converted. Aylestone got another penalty for Lutts handling the ball on the floor. This was converted. Thirty minutes through the half, after a great chip and chase down the wing, the resulting lineout gave the edge to Lutts and the backs used the ball well to put Williams in at the corner. This was not converted. Right at the death the Stone’s got a final try after winning a five metre scrum. This was not converted. The final score was 25 -25 in a match that Lutterworth should have won convincingly.
