2nd TEAM   Match Report

Saturday 15th October 2005

South Leicester  2nd XV: 26pts  V  Lutterworth  2nd XV: 5pts

Lutterworth visited south Leicester for a hard fought game.  South Leicester are top of the next division and only conceded 3 point so far this season, so the Lutterworth performance was excellent and the score line flattered the opposition.

The match started hard with some relentless tackling from both sides.  The south Leicester fly half was controlling the game and made the Lutts defence work hard.  The first score came after a series of hard rucks and mauls. The second score from south Leicester came 30 minutes in and after a dubious call from the ref for playing the ball on the floor.

Lutterworth were not going to let there heads drop and came back hard receiving their own kick off, and taking the ball forward deep in to the south half.  The ball was passed out the centre Bob Williams and he ran some great lines to carve open the defence and the linked back to the forwards to gift John Dalby with an easy try.  This was not converted. South Leicester had a chance at a penalty before half time but the kick went wide of the posts.

The second half was as hard as the first with Lutterworth being the more prominent and determined.  However there were some big collisions and the result being Lutts losing a second row for a blood injury.  Lutts were unfortunate not to be awarded more penalties for a spate of spear tackles that had players receiving treatment.  Mid way through the half the Lutts had a prop sent off for a perceived high tackle.  During this time with one man down the South Leicester side were able to score again purely down to the fact they had the overlap and they exploited that.

The final score came before full time when the South’s back line was able to cut though the Lutts defence.  This was not converted.

Final Score 26 – 5 to South Leicester.
