2nd TEAM   Match Report

Saturday 4th September 2005

Lutterworth  2nd XV: 45pts   Market Bosworth  2nd XV: 5pts

A warm September afternoon saw Lutterworth get their season of to a great start when they welcomed local rivals Market Bosworth.   Lutterworth had some new faces amongst the line up as well as the usual die-hards, for the season opener.

From the kick off the play was all Lutterworth, with scrums being well controlled and the open play showing some promise for the rest of the season. The first score came after 15 minutes when forward and backs worked well to send Brightmore over in the corner.  This was not converted. A few minutes later an well rehearsed line out close to the visitors line saw Captain Adrian Sheasby crash over the line.  This was not converted.

The Lutterworth third score came from some determined rucking from the home side and when close to the line the Hooker Jones broke free to dive over to score.  Williams converted the score. A few minute later Lutterworth scored again when No8 Stannard took the ball on from a brake down and was able to burst through the defence to score under the posts.  Williams converted this.

The second quarter saw Lutterworth lose a little of its control and allowed the visitor to move down into the Lutterworth 22.  They were camped here for a while but never once allowed their line to be crossed. The third quarter saw Lutterworth regain some composure and once again, and some fine mauling and picking from the base of the ruck allows Williamson to take the ball under the posts.  Williams again converted. Bosworth were able to cross the Lutterworth line when a determined effort from there forwards rucking allowed them to score.  This was not converted.

Lutterworth’s final two scores came from the superior backs.  Centre Hughes just took the ball from a tackle and burst through the Bosworth defence and was able to score a simple touchdown under the posts.   The final move came from the winger Dudley who chased a kick through the defence and was the faster of the two players and make the touchdown over the line.  Both these try’s were converted by Willaims.  Final score 45 – 5.
