2nd TEAM   Match Report

Saturday 4th March 2006

Lutterworth  2nd XV: 10pts v Leicester University 2nd XV: 20pts  V

Lutterworth had a hard fought afternoon against a young enthusiastic side that wanted to get the ball wide all afternoon.  Lutts played hard and kept the ball tight, and slowly moved into the Uni half with plenty of chip and chase to get in behind the Uni defence.  But the younger side's speed to cover allowed them to snaffle the ball and counter attack.  On the stroke of half hour Lutts got a break and Jez Bell scored a penalty for killing the ball.  Just before the break the Uni side scored a try in the corner that was not converted.

The second half was much the same as the first and Lutts put some excellent passages of play together and came close to scoring.  Then the Uni side came back and nearly scored but for the excellent cover from full back Smith and the back row. The Uni side did manage to score again and they went wide and stretched the Lutts side to score in the corner.  The persistent pressure from Lutts did pay off in the end when the forwards drove hard up the middle of the pitch and the quick ball allowed fly half Bell to crash through the defence to score.  Bell converted.

Late in the second half The Uni side got a couple of scores as Lutts were playing with injured players by this stage.

Final score was Lutts 10 – Leicester Uni - 20
