1st TEAM   Match Report

Saturday 29th October 2005

LEAGUE:  MIDLANDS 3 EAST (South)

WELLINGBOROUGH 1st XV: 27  V  LUTTERWORTH  1st XV: 12

Once again Lutterworth started strongly and after only five minutes winger, Lee Tebbatt ran in a fine try that was the culmination of classic threequarter play from a ruck set up by the powerful  straight running of lock, Ben Husthwaite.  Another Lutterworth attack was thwarted when Wellingborough’s opportunist winger intercepted a poor offload and took the ball over to take the lead with a converted try. The visitors continued to look the better side and after half an hour number eight Adam Conway picked up the ball from the back of a five metre scrum and scored. Tim Jeffs converted but before half time more sloppy play from Lutterworth allowed the home side to regain the lead with another converted try.

Only two points behind and with the benefit of the slope of the pitch for the second forty minutes, Lutterworth still looked good enough to take the points, however, Wellingborough had other ideas. Whilst the home side notched up another converted try and two successful penalty attempts Lutterworth failed to add any points to their first half tally. ‘Boro consistently found and made gaps through a shaky Lutterworth midfield and as the visitors lost their shape and forgot their game plan ill discipline reigned and even individual skills were forgotten.

Despite having played some outstanding rugby this season and suffering some very narrow defeats, poor performances two weeks running now find Lutterworth languishing close to the bottom of this very competitive league.
