Non League Game
NORTHAMPTON CASUALS 1st XV: 13 V LUTTERWORTH 1st XV: 41
After a dismal first twenty minutes lethargic Lutterworth trailed a rampant Casuals by nineteen points to three. The Northampton side found and exploited every weakness and gap in the visitors’ defence running in three soft tries countered only by a lone penalty conversion by Bobby Williams. Slowly Lutterworth came back off the ropes to begin a remarkable fight back. Typically it was the pack who set up scrum half Gareth Court for the first try and despite Casuals hitting straight back to finish the first period leading twenty four to eight, at half time, coach, Dave Turner, made it quite clear that this was a game that could be won.
The previously dejected large band of visiting supporters was treated to second forty minutes of outstanding attacking rugby. Led by a pack that totally dominated the set piece, Lutterworth notched up thirty three unanswered points with two tries inside of ten minutes from hooker, Alan Johnson followed by scores from Andrew Williamson, Paul Riley and Bobby Williams. Williams had brought his kicking boots to the feast, slotting four out of five conversion attempts, none of which were easy.
