1st TEAM Match Report
Saturday 17th December 2005
LEAGUE: MIDLANDS 3 EAST (South)
LUTTERWORTH 1st XV: 30 V DAVENTRY 1st XV: 19
It took Lutterworth fifteen minutes to gain the advantage over a Daventry side much changed and improved since their previous encounter in November. Once again it was the home side’s scrummaging that found the way through the visitor’s defences. A Lutterworth scrum ten metres out pushed the defenders over their line and number eight, Adam Conway touched down for the first of his two tries. Undaunted, Daventry soon struck back, their centre, Pat Green finding an easy route through the home side defence to level the score at seven each. The home side slowly gained the ascendancy and were especially dominant in the lineout, after thirty minutes a Daventry throw went long where it was snaffled by Lutterworth Captain Dennis Hall who presented the ball for centre Nick Hutt to crash over. Lutterworth added a converted penalty just before half time and went into the break with a comfortable 15 to 7 lead.
The second period was very much a repeat of the first, once again it took Lutterworth fifteen minutes to open the scoring with a fine individual effort from Tim Jeffs. Soon afterwards Adam Conway scored a carbon copy of his first half try from the back of another push over scrum taking the home side into a commanding 27 to 7 lead. Daventry hit back with a converted try from their outstanding player on the day, fly half Alex Rose. Although Jeffs slotted a late penalty the visitors replied with a third try and the gap between the two sides was only maintained by some fine defending led once again by the tenacious tackling of flanker and man of the match Simon Deacon .
