Non League Game
BANBURY 1st XV: 31 V LUTTERWORTH 1st XV: 6
The proof of the pudding is in the eating and an accomplished and well-drilled Banbury proved why they are top of Midlands Three East (South) with an impressive victory over a hard working and gritty Lutterworth.
The adversaries were evenly matched during the first forty minutes with both teams making determined efforts to break the stalemate. Banbury looked possibly more dangerous on the attack and their first incursion was stopped by resolute defence, Paul Riley and Phil Daffern in particular making a couple of fine tackles.
However the Banbury driving maul was working like a well-oiled machine and inevitably led to their first try. Bobby Williams not only kept Lutterworth in touch but took them into the lead at half time kicking immaculately to convert two difficult penalty attempts.
The second period was all Banbury, they hit the visitors with four tries, two of which scored by their number six, the outstanding player on the day, however his opposite number in the red white and green shirt, Steve Lamb, gave one hundred and ten per cent to take the accolade as Lutterworth man of the match.
Scoring: 0-5, 3-5, 6-5.
6-12, 6-19, 6-24, 6-31
Important news for any young players aged from seventeen to nineteen; Lutterworth are keen to attract new players as well as bringing back youngsters who have played for the Junior section of The Club into the recently re-formed Colts set up. Former 1st XV captains, Dave Johnson and Mark Ellis are in charge of this exciting development and they will welcome all interested lads into a squad that will soon be the toast of the County.
