LEAGUE: MIDLANDS 3 EAST (South)
MARKET BOSWORTH DEV XV: 0 V LUTTERWORTH 1st XV: 27
A welcome return to form by Lutterworth goal kicker, Tim Jeffs, was accompanied by some fine rugby during a comprehensive victory over a Bosworth development fifteen.
Twenty-four of the total points tally were scored by the visitors during the first forty minutes but the final score probably did not fully reflect Lutterworth’s absolute control. That control was initiated and led by veteran prop Marcus Stevens. Stevens, who switched between tighthead and loosehead outplayed and overpowered all who were unfortunate enough to meet him face to face and provided the base for a memorable performance from the Lutterworth pack.
Jeffs was denied an early penalty attempt, hitting the upright, but slotted the next attempt after twenty minutes of play. Five minutes later winger, Phil Daffern beat four men to run in the first try of the day. Lutterworth’s dominance was rewarded with two more converted tries. The first touched down by number eight Adam Conway at the back of a ten metre push over try, the second by this season’s prolific points gatherer, Paul Riley, from the back of a driven maul.
During the second period Bosworth, playing with the wind, clumsily denied themselves a breakaway try but were lucky to concede no more than another Jeff’s penalty taking his afternoon’s tally to twelve from a possible eighteen.
Lutterworth coach, Dave Turner, is hoping that this upbeat performance will revitalise the side’s flagging league form when Lutterworth host Huntingdon next Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm
