1st TEAM   Match Report

Saturday 2nd December 2005

LEAGUE:  MIDLANDS 3 EAST (South)

LUTTERWORTH  1st XV: 13  V  STOCKWOOD PARK1st XV: 0

Lutterworth did enough in the first thirty minutes to secure what ultimately became a tenuous victory over Stockwood Park. During this opening spell the Lutterworth pack gave the visitors a masterclass in forward play, no more so than in the set piece. The visitors were unable to fight their way out of their own half and inevitably after ten minutes Lutterworth opened the scoring from a break of pure class by scrum half Gareth Court who set up winger, Phil Daffern to go over in the corner. Only minutes later the Lutterworth scrum was reset three times before the referee finally allowed the push over try touched down by captain, Dennis Hall. Stand off, Tim Jeffs slotted a penalty to take the score to 13 to 0. The score remained unchanged for the remainder of the match and despite Stockwood Park raising their game Lutterworth hung on with some stoic defending that ultimately gave them a more slender victory than was anticipated.

Lutterworth now find themselves in a familiar fourth position in this league, five points behind leaders Banbury. Next Saturday they travel to Northampton Old Scouts, a fixture which will be decisive if they are to stay in contention.
