Lutterworth 2nds 15pts  V  Daventry 2nds 0pts

Lutterworth welcomed Daventry to the last game before the Christmas break.  This was a return fixture and one where Lutterworth wanted to avenge their 5 – 0 defeat earlier in the season.

Lutterworth dominated from the start, with powerful rucking and fierce tackling, the pack spent the whole afternoon pushing Daventry around the park, winning plenty against of ball against the head.Daventry constantly tried to spoil ball by infringing on the sides but the referee was well aware of what was going on and on, Lutterworth controlled the ball well with number eight John Clarke picking the ball a driving those extras yards on a number of occasions. One passage of play midway through the first half linking forwards and backs across the field took Lutterworth deep into the Daventry twenty two.  Lutterworth were awarded a penalty and flanker Ben Stretton was quick enough to take the tap and go for the line himself.  Unfortunately his try was not converted.A few minutes later Lutterworth found themselves awarded a penalty again in the Daventy half but this time in front of the posts, Ivan Bills stepped forward to take the kick at goal.  This was dually scored and Lutterworth went into half time 8 – 0 up.

After half time things were a little slow to get going with some blood injuries on both sides but Lutterworth soon took control and some powerful linking runs from forwards and backs took them down into the Daventry twenty-two.  Off the base of a ruck close to the line a quick short pass was sent out and flyhalf Ivan Bills jinked his way through a couple of tackles to score in the corner.  Bills converted his own try.Minutes later Lutterworth found themselves in a similar situation but this time the ball was taken on by one of the flankers who having caught sight of his dad on the touchline immediately turned about and ran along the try line.  There were players outside and inside calling for the ball and but the flanker just kept running ………sideways.  Even the sight of experienced prop Dave Baker coming at full run towards the try line didn’t convince the Lutterworth player to pass the ball for a certain score.  In the end he dived for the line only to be held up, and received a bloody nose for his troubles.

Lutterworth kept the pressure up for the rest of the half and were unlucky not to cross the line again but go into the Christmas break with a satisfying 15 – 0 win
