2nd TEAM   Match Report

Saturday 12th March 2005

Lutterworth 2nds 27pts  V  Tamworth 2nds 8pts

Lutterworth had to play in an unfamiliar blue strip for the home game against Tamworth.

When the game got underway it started in the normal fashion for the home team, by being strong and dominating but giving silly ball away and allowing their opposition to score early points, a try in the corner. When Lutterworth finally woke up and started to concentrate, the game went well.  The forwards tired the Tamworth pack quickly and took control of scrum, competed well in the lineout, interfered with a lot of their ball.

Tamworth was awarded a penalty for a Lutterworth infringement and they converted this to take the score to 8 – 0 in the first 15 minutes.Lutterworth’s first score came from a lineout, the ball was quickly spun to the centre Tom Kiddy who broke through the defence and almost made it to the line. He was brought down just short, but was able to get the ball away in the tackle to Glen Creasey who touched down to score.  This was not converted.Lutterworth’s second score came quickly afterwards with some well-worked rucks and good lines of running to allow number eight John Dalby to score in the corner.  Al Slater converted this.  Half time score 12 – 8

The second half could not have started any better for Lutterworth, with in a couple of minutes of the restart Lutterworth won a lineout and secured the ball to allow Duncan Carter to take the ball on and crash over the line.  This was not converted.Midway through the second half Lutterworth used a well-rehearsed move from a lineout that allowed Adrian Sheasby to dive over the line unopposed.  The Tamworth side started to unravel a bit at this point and some of the discipline went from both sides, but the Tamworth fly half was sin binned for constant infringement at the breakdown.  A few minutes later Lutterworth lost a player to the bin for attempting to throw a punch in a minor fracas.

The final score came from Lutterworth when they stole a Tamworth lineout and this allowed Sheasby to take the ball on and set it up for the forwards to maul to the line.  Dave Baker scored the final try and this was not converted.
