LOUGHBOROUGH 1st XV  12   v  LUTTERWORTH  1st XV: 34

Another flying start from Lutterworth with Tim Jeffs soon in the action notching his first penalty attempt after five minutes. But Loughborough weathered the storm and their first foray into the visitor’s twenty two was denied points only by the acceleration of Lutterworth prop and skipper, Paul Wilford (not normally recognised for his pace).

Loughborough failed to find a replacement for an injured front row and the game continued until half time with uncontested scrums. The visitors gradually stamped their mark and winger, Jimmy Croucher, took the ball over from the blind side of a five metre scrum. Shortly before half time a lineout catch and drive was touched down by Paul Riley.

Loughborough began the second period with a converted try but were soon outclassed by a Lutterworth side who began to play some delightful rugby. A thirty yard defence smashing run by Nick Hutt brought a missed penalty attempt but then great vision by scrum half Court put Riley through for his second try. Charley Roberson capped a fine performance with try number four and number 8, Rob Sands delivered the final blow to the home side, touching down a pushover try. Loughborough managed a last minute consolation try in what ended up a fairly one sided contest.

Lutterworth resume their league campaign on Saturday when they visit Stockwood Park.
