1st TEAM   Match Report

Saturday 2nd October 2004

LEAGUE:  MIDLANDS 3 EAST (South)

Stewart & Lloyds  1st XV: 15      LUTTERWORTH  1st XV: 0

Lutterworth get it wrong two weeks in succession taking nothing away from a game in which they were well beaten by a strong and well organised Corby side. They conceded all fifteen points during the first half playing against the very strong prevailing wind but totally failed to capitalise on the conditions during the second period.

The home side opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a converted penalty awarded in front of the posts for handling in a ruck. Shortly afterwards S & L secured possession from their own lineout on the half way line and their threequarters easily ran the ball over for their first try. Lutterworth’s Jim Croucher was unfortunate not to score when he made a good interception but took the wrong decision deciding to chip the ball rather than carry it over.  At this point the away side were well in the game and defending stoutly but towards the end of the 40 minutes fly half, Tim Jeffs failed to find touch with a penalty attempt and once again the S & L backs, capitalising on their surprise possession, ran the ball over with ease, Lutterworth missing tackle after tackle.

It seemed that all was not lost as the strong wind and downhill pitch were now in Lutterworth’s favour but it was not to be. Although the home side failed to add to their tally, Lutterworth were disjointed, disorganised and ill disciplined. The second half ended in a bad tempered stalemate, the spoils going to Stewarts and Llyods and Lutterworth left licking their wounds.
