Under 17 Match Report
SUNDAY 15th February 2004
Lutterworth 10pts V Syston 5pts
Lutterworth under 17s narrow victory against Syston at Home
Lutterworth under 17s secured a 10 points to 5 victory over Syston at Home this weekend in an extremely hard fought game.
In what promised to be a very closely contested game Lutterworth forwards were very dominant winning nearly all the set piece play, in contrast Syston had very fast backs that often broke through the Lutterworth defence, this made for a very entertaining game of Rugby.
The first try was scored by Lutterworth, Scott Ward crossing the line in the corner, after a set piece move from a lineout. Syston responded almost immediately with breakaway try also scored in the corner. The rest of the first half was very highly contested with some stout defence by both sides. Half time score 5-5.
In the second half, after a series of pick and drive moves by the forwards the ball was released to the backs and after some good overlapping play Ross Penfold burrowed under the Syston defence to score a well earned try. Syston were quick to respond and would have scored except for a try saving tackle by Will King. The last 20 minutes of the game was real end-to-end stuff with both sides determined to give their best. Final score 10-5 to Lutterworth.
