Lutterworth 19pts V Oakham 12pts
This match was played in the afternoon due to the Rugby World Cup quarter finals being played in the morning.
There was no score for the first 20 minutes of the game, although some real end-to end rugby was played, Oakham opened the scoring with a try in the corner, not converted. Lutterworth’s first try was scored by the scrum half Sam Brookes on the half hour mark, after a lot of forwards pressure (pick & drive) also a couple of cracking mauls from the line out drive, he pounced darted through the spread Oakham defence and scored under posts, this was converted by Mick Brightmore.
There was a change of fortunes at half time, with Lutterworth becoming the more dominant team. A breakaway try was scored by Will King ran from our 22 broke through the Oakham back line and scored under posts, this was converted by Mick Brightmore. Then long looping move from a scrum in midfield involved all the backs and finished up with the full back (Richard Eggleston) scoring in the right hand corner.
Oakham responded late in the game with a try from their fullback, which was converted.
