Oakham 12pts   V   Lutterworth 22pts

Lutterworth under 17s secure an away win at Oakham

Lutterworth under 17s travelled over to Oakham and recorded their second win of the New Year and to complete the double against their long distance rivals.

In what promised to be a very closely contested game Lutterworth forwards were very dominant winning nearly all the set piece play, often winning lineouts on Oakham’s throw and scrums against the head.

The first try was scored by Lutterworth, Chris Stanley, crossing the line in the corner, after some excellent overlapping backs play, the second was scored by Mick Brightmore who burst straight through the middle of the Oakham defence. Oakham responded just before half time with breakaway try which was converted. Half time score 10-7 to Lutterworth.

Early in the second half, a 30m drive by the Lutterworth forwards, released Scott Ward to score under the posts, converted by Mick Brightmore. Oakham responded shortly afterwards with a breakaway try down the wing to bring the score to 17-12. After a set scrum in the middle of the field, some great overlapping backs play enabled Richard Eggleston to score in the corner.  Final score to 22-12 to Lutterworth.
