Under 13 Match Report

SUNDAY 25th  January  2004

Melton 7pts  V  Lutterworth  29pts

A Tale of Two Half’s for Lutts U13’s!

After last week’s disappointment of the weather postponed Cup game, Lutterworth under 13’s travelled to Melton Mowbray and registered an excellent 29-7 win.

In the first half they faced probably their toughest test of the season as an extremely well drilled Melton side matched them, although it was Lutts who took the early lead. It came from a quick tap penalty, which was moved along to Ashley Parrott, who used his power and strength to drive over the line.

Melton upped the pace and deservedly equalised through a well-taken try, after prolonged pressure on the visitor’s line. They successfully converted to make it a 7-5 half time lead to the home side.

As if rattled by being behind, Lutts started the second half with a fresh vigour and took the lead from a well taken try by Mathew Everard, who picked up from a scrum close to the line and drove through. Good movement from both the forwards and backs led to Lutts 3rd try. The move started from number 8 Parrott driving through, the ball was picked up by scrum half Lloyd who made a quick pass to Will Keeling, who took the ball at speed. He made a great run through the defence, to score under the posts and then convert his own try.

Lutts then won opposition line out as Everard stole the ball and then made a superb 25-yard run to drive through and over the line, for his second try. Greg Littlewood successfully converted. The final try of the game came from a brilliant run by Keeling. He made a great run down the wing and got to within a yard of the line before he was well tackled. He was first to his feet and picked up to dive over the line.

After a most entertaining game, Lutts successfully extended the unbeaten run to 15 games.
