Under 13 Match Report

SUNDAY 21st  March  2004

Banbury 10’s Tournament

Lutts are Banbury 10’s Champions!

On Sunday Lutterworth under 13's travelled to Banbury RUFC to take part in the prestigious annual Banbury 10’s Junior Rugby Festival.

Lutts were number one seeds, due to their undefeated run this season. However, they were coming up against quality opposition from all over the country, so they would have to be on their best form.

League stage:

Drawn in Group A, Lutts came up against Windsor, Aylesbury and Weybridge Vandals. Lutts had a great day, winning all three-group games with no trys against and clinching a spot in the semi-final.

The details of the results were:

28-0 vs Windsor:

A fantastic hat trick from Greg Littlewood and a try from Matt Everard, Littlewood converted all four

15-0 vs Aylesbury:

A try each from Will Keeling, Dan Holmes and Littlewood

24-0 vs Weybridge Vandals:

A fantastic hat trick from Everard and a try from Jack Edwards with Edwards also converting two

Lutts U3’s vs Chobham - Semi-Final:

Lutts came up against Chobham in the semi-final and they played the best half of rugby seen today and eventually ran out 31-0 winners in the end.

Littlewood opened the scoring after a quick scrum ball was moved to him and he made a great darting run through the defence to score under the posts. He also converted his own try. Littlewood again went over for try two after quick ball, which was taken at speed, saw him crashing through.

The one-way traffic continued as Everard made one of his surging runs through the line. He was pulled down but was quickly up on his feet to pick up the ball and drive his way over the line. Littlewood converted this excellent try. Try number 4 followed seconds later as Ashley Parrott made a great run through the line. Littlewood was again successful with his conversion to make the half time score 26-0 to Lutts. What a fantastic half of rugby!

The second half failed to live up to previous 7 minutes although Lutts sealed the game with a very skilful final try. Chobham spilled the ball at half way and Edwards fly kicked the ball on, Holmes chased and also brilliantly kicked on for Tris Crawshaw to chase and drop on the ball as it crossed the line. A great 31-0 win for Lutts.

Lutts U3’s vs Windsor - The Final:

Lutts met Windsor in the final, as they had won their close semi-final 10-7 against Westcliff. The final of this fantastic tournament was played on the main pitch and in front of the impressive main stand.

Lutts got off to the worst possible start as they conceded their first try of the day after only two minutes. They never let their heads drop and they played their way out of this mini crisis with a superb break away try from Parrott, who scored under the posts. Littlewood once again converted to make it 7-5 at half time.

Normal service resumed early in the second half as Lutts regained their form and scored a great try from Everard. He picked up in the middle of the park and used his strength and power to make a great run and drive over the line. Littlewood scored the easy conversion.

A minute later Lutts were again camped out on the Windsor line as Parrott picked up loose ball and drove through and under the posts. Again Littlewood was accurate with the kicking.  The next attack saw Lutts again driving forward with Everard in control. His persistence was rewarded with another great try as he powered his way through.

With seconds to go to Everard was again on hand to receive a great pass and push his way over to register a well deserved hat trick and make the final score 31-5 to Lutterworth. A great 2nd half of rugby.

The entire squad of 15 went up to collect the trophy and a proud coach Chris Everard said, “I am over the moon, to win all five games, with only one try conceded, against some excellent sides is a fantastic achievement. The quality of some of the play was breath taking and this young team just keep pushing their standards higher and higher”

Thank you to both Lutterworth and Windsor for a great final and congratulations Banbury RUFC for a superbly organised tournament. Also, well done Lutterworth under 13’s for 27 wins from 27 games this season.
