Under 13 Match Report
SUNDAY 17th April 2004
Lutterworth 43pts V Syston 7pts
On Sunday Lutterworth RFC under 13’s played their final home game of the season as they entertained Syston, at Ashby Lane.
Lutts faced a very tough test from a much improved Syston, but eventually ran out an impressive 43-7 winners, but not until after a tough first half of rugby.
In a tight first 5 minutes, it took a flash of inspiration from Tris Crawshaw to make the opening try. He received the ball at half way and made a superb run down the wing, only being pulled down close to the line. Matt Everard was on his shoulder to receive the pass and drop over the line for the opening try.
The score was doubled 5 minutes later as great hands from Everard to Greg Littlewood and eventually on to Will Keeling, saw him make a brilliant weaving run and through over the line. The teams then went on to cancel each other out, with chances at both ends, but Lutts ran in 10-0 leaders at half time.
Lutterworth began the second half with added vigour as Littlewood received a pass on his own 22. He then scored one of the tries of the season as he out run the entire Syston back line, despite being pulled down to force his way over to touch down. A fantastic individual try which he duly converted.
Lutts again pressed forward as they had a penalty close to the visitor’s line. Quick thinking by Everard saw him take a quick tap penalty and force his way over the line. Not wanting to be out done by Littlewoods try, Tris Crawshaw made a similar run from half way to beat everyone down the wing and score in the corner. Littlewood successfully converted.
As Syston began to tire, Lutts began moving the ball really well as great hands to Crawshaw and onto Littlewood, saw him make another excellent run through the defence and under the posts. He then converted his own try.
A brave Syston never let their heads drop as their busy fly half Blake Tresler made a great run through the Lutts defence and under the posts. He also converted his own try.
With minutes left Lutterworth pushed forward for that final try. Everard pick up neatly close to the Syston line and drove through and over to register another excellent hat trick, which was again converted by Littlewood. Final score was 43-7 to Lutts.
Another superb win for this young side and it was win number 29 from 29 starts this season. This exciting team have only the Syston 7’s (next Sunday) and the Leicestershire County Cup Final against Oadby Wyggs (May 2nd at Coalville) to go through the entire season unbeaten. Can they do it?
