Under 13 Match Report

SUNDAY 8th  February  2004

Worcester  V  Lutterworth  -  2 Games

Lutts win the “battle of the giants”!

On Sunday Lutterworth under 13’s travelled to Sixways, home of Worcester to pitch the two biggest squads in the Midlands, against each other. In fact numbers were such that two games were played, on this extremely windy day.

Game 1:

In a superb display of rugby from both teams, Lutts ran our 12-7 winners. Will Williams opened the scoring after constant battling to cross the Worcester line. They had 3 attempts to cross but were held out each time until Williams picked up and managed to wriggle his way over.

Lutts, who had the strong wind with them, pulled out a further lead through Tristan Crawshaw. The ball was loose on the 22 as he kicked through and was first to the ball as he slid over the line for a great individual try. Greg Littlewood successfully converted to make it 12-0 at half time.

The second half saw the conditions favour the home side and they tried valiantly to score, but the Lutterworth defence was strong. That was until the very last seconds as Worcester put in 3 great pushes for the line and they finally found their way through. The kick went over to make the final score 12-7 to Lutterworth

Game 2:

After such an exciting game, could we possibly follow that in the second game? Yes was the answer as these two strong teams served up a classic and Lutterworth ran out 12-0 winners.

The home team won the toss so they chose to have the wind with them in the first half. The anticipated onslaught arrived and Lutts held out. In fact they had the better of the half, despite the wind and were disappointed to go in 0-0 at half time.

Lutts spent the first 5 minutes of the second half camped out on the Worcester line. Matt Everard eventually picked up the ball and he drove through to register the first try. Littlewood was again successful with the kick.

The visitors pilled more pressure on and a second try had to come. It eventually arrived as Lutts had a 5-metre scrum. A pick up at the back of that scrum by number 8 Ashley Parrott saw him push through five Worcester players and use his strength to drive over the line. The difficult kick was missed to make the final score 12-0 to Lutts.

Another two great wins for Lutterworth under 13’s and win number 18 from 18 this season! They will do well to come up against tougher opposition this season, well done Lutterworth and Worcester for a great morning of rugby!
