Under 13 Match Report
SUNDAY 2nd May 2004
COUNTY CUP FINAL
Lutterworth 55pts V Oadby Wyggs 0pts
On Sunday Lutterworth under 13’s travelled to Coalville, to play the Leicestershire County Cup Final game against Oadby Wyggs. They were attempting to make history on two fronts by winning their 35th game out of 35 games this season, for the perfect 100% record and winning the County Championship for the 5th year on the run. Lutts didn’t need to worry as they ran out impressive 55-0 winners, to bring to a close an unbelievable season of rugby.
They showed their intensions early on as great hands saw the ball moved from one wing to other and in to James Cooke’s hands who made a great run from just outside opposition 22 to finish off a great team try. The second came shortly after as Will Keeling made a great run only to be denied close to the line. He got the ball away to Matt Everard who was in close support, to drive his way over the line. Greg Littlewood was successful with his kick.
Number three started with another great drive from Everard, who was well tackled close to the line. Ashley Parrott was first to the ball and made a great pick up and drive through and over the line. Littlewood again converted. Lutts then turned defence into attack as the ball was kicked deep into Wyggs territory. Everard managed to steel the ball from the Oadby line out and then his strength took him through the defensive line. Littlewood converted kick number 3.
Try number five was a trademark Littlewood effort. The ball was well passed out to him, on the half way line and he made a beautiful run down the wing, to score in the corner. He then proceeded to convert a most difficult kick. With seconds on the clock there was just time for one more before the end of the half. It once again came from another great Everard steel from OW line out ball. He rose above all else to claim the ball and then there was no stopping him a he drove through to register yet another excellent hat trick. This was the final play of the half as Lutts ran in 36-0 leaders.
Coach Chris Everard made 7 changes at half time so the big crowd were able to witness the strength of this great young squad. Oadby made a better start to this half but the one way traffic was soon to reappear as captain Matt Everard inevitably scored his fourth try. It was again his signature pick up and drive over the line, which was then converted by Littlewood.
The ball was deep in Lutts half as Littlewood made a timely kick out of defence. From the chase Will Keeling was first to the ball and he hacked on for Luke Ball who outpaced the back line to drop on the ball first. Littlewood scored the final try of the game after a great individual jinking run. He beat four players and scored in the corner and then finished off a great kicking day by converting another difficult kick.
An excellent exhibition of rugby saw Lutterworth romp home deserved 55-0 winners. Coach Chris Everard was nearly lost for words at the end as he said:
“Unbelievable, what a fantastic season. These young lads have all improved over the year cumulating in three Cup Final wins and an amazing 100% record in all competitions. As well as thanking the squad for all their hard work, I would also like to thank the other coaches and parents for all there commitment and support”
This fantastic season will be fully recognised on May 16th as Lutterworth RFC under 13’s hold their Annual Awards Dinner at the Kilworth Springs Golf Club.
