LADIES  TEAM   Match Report

Sunday 30th NOVEMBER  2003

WRFU Midlands Division 2

Oxford Ladies: 30  V  Lutterworth Ladies: 31

Lutterworth got off to a shaky start against Oxford, allowing their
fly-half an easy try within the first five minutes. However, some good,
hard running and excellent support from Lutterworth's forwards saw
flanker Shireen Sawchuk battle over for her first ever try.
Unfortunately in the build up to the try scrum-half Zoe Smith landed
awkwardly and had to leave the pitch with a broken arm, leaving
Lutterworth with only 14 players on the pitch.

Oxford's winger gave Lutterworth lots to think about with a number of
searing runs down the wing, one resulting in a try but it was Oxford's
fly-half who caused Lutterworth the most trouble, scoring yet again,
leaving Lutterworth trailing 20-19 at half-time.

The second-half saw Lutterworth on the back foot again as Oxford's no.8
picked up from the back of a ruck and dived over for a try.
Lutterworth's winger Laura Ogden, responded with a fantastic try
breaking through a number of tackles to score under the posts, her
second try of the day. Vicki Berridge, took over the kicking role from
Smith and converted the try to see Lutterworth lead by 1 point.

With 11 mins to go Oxford's fly-half scored again, unfortunately for
them their full-back's bad day continued, missing 6 out of 6
conversions. Lutterworth knew at this point that nothing less than a
tremendous effort was going to bring this game back, the next five
minutes continued with some great tackling and although Lutterworth fell
foul to a number of controversial refereeing decisions they never let
their heads go down. Some great support play resulted in fly-half Helen
Potter stepping past several defenders to score under the posts (her
second of the match), the conversion by Berridge crept between the posts
to see Lutterworth take a single point victory with just three minutes
to go.

Come and see Lutterworth WRFC play their next home league game against
Hereford's Greyhounds on 7th December, k.o 2pm
