LADIES  TEAM   Match Report

Midlands Division 2

Sunday 22nd February 2004

Lutterworth WRFC  15pts   V   Tewkesbury WRFC  10pts

It was a close fought battle between these two teams who last met 12
months ago in the semi-final of the Cup competition. Defeat was not an
option for a Lutterworth side that if they remain undefeated for the
remainder of the season are in strong contention for promotion next
season.

Lutterworth's back line began to display some of the strength which had
been lacking for most of this season and a well worked move, starting
with fly-half, Connie Packwood and finishing with outside centre Laura
Ogden touching down to the right of the posts.

Lutterworth's lead was then strengthened when second row Felicity Booth
managed to break from a well executed rolling maul to cross the line for
the second try. Tewksbury decided to fight back and an unfortunate
penalty given for not allowing the ball out of the back of the scrum was
awarded and the Tewksbury attack took advantage of Lutterworth's
unorganised defence to score in the far corner of the pitch. Tewksbury
then spent the remainder of the first half camped in their own half with
Lutterworth continuously pressurising but not quite managing to finish
the moves.

In the second half Tewksbury came out the stronger of the two teams with
a number of threatening breaks from their centres soon resulting in a
try, allowed only through a poor display of tackling by Lutterworth.
However, Lutterworth's resolve soon strengthened and a great display of
forward rucking soon saw them back in Tewksbury's 22. A simple penalty
move by Lutterworth saw Tewksbury take the dummy and leave plenty of
room for Zoe Markham to cross the line on the blind. Securing victory
for Lutterworth and setting up a great re-match against Tewksbury when
Lutterworth face them away in three weeks time.

FINAL SCORE: 15-10
