LADIES TEAM Match Report
Midlands Division 2
Sunday 18th April 2004
Hereford Greyhounds WRFC 12pts V Lutterworth WRFC
17pts
Lutterworth kept their promotion hopes alive
with a gritty performance
against Hereford's Greyhound's team.
The eventful journey had not flustered the visitors and Lutterworth
started the match the stronger of the two teams, camping in the
Greyhound's half for the first twenty minutes. A well executed move in
the backs finished with outside centre, Hannah Faulds running in a try
from the 22 to score under the posts, converted by scrum-half Zoe Smith.
Pressure was then maintained by the Lutterworth team who dominated the
set-pieces. The pressure was soon converted into points when a quick
penalty taken by second row, Felicity Booth gave Lutterworth a 0-12
lead. The final points of the half were scored from a fantastic
individual piece of play by fly-half Connie Packwood run in from
half-way, taking several Greyhound players with her!
The second half of the match was dominated by Greyhounds and Lutterworth
were lucky to retain their 17 point lead. Penalty after penalty was
given away by the Lutterworth team for dubious off-side and tackling
offences, this allowed Greyhound's to work their way up the pitch. A
break made by their centre up the middle of the pitch would have
resulted in a try if it wasn't for an excellent chase and last ditch
tackle attempt made by winger Laura Ogden.
Lutterworth struggled to re-gain their concentration until the last 15
mins when Greyhounds had scored two tries and were threatening a third
that could have given them the match. Some very hard tackles were made,
allowing Lutterworth to gain possession and excellent field kicking by
Zoe Smith gave Lutterworth a more comfortable pitch position in which
to play out the dying minutes of the match.
FINAL SCORE: 12-17
