LADIES  TEAM   Match Report

Midlands Division 2

Sunday 18th January 2004

Old Leamingtonians 18   v  Lutterworth WRFC  31

A new year, a new start for Lutterworth who travelled to Leamington Spa
with a full team, for the first time in many weeks. It was a welcome
return for centre Karen Holdridge,  missing since the first match of the
season.

The experience of Old Leamingtonians,  formerly a Premier Division side,
showed in the first 20 mins when following some concerted pressure
Lutterworth gave away a penalty in front of the posts which was easily
converted.

Lutterworth then responded with a well timed pass from second row,
Felicity Booth,  which released outside-centre  Laura Ogden to evade two
tackles and score under the posts,  having run from within her own 22.
Vicki Berridge then converted to make the score 3-7.

A clever chip over the heads of Lutterworth's back line by Old
Leamingtonian's fly-half caught Lutterworth's  full-back out of position
and Old Leams outside centre broke through the line to scoop up the ball
and cross the line, leaving Lutterworth trailing by just one point going
into the second half.

Old Leams started the stronger of the two sides again and some hard
running by their forwards saw Lutterworth frantically having to defend
their own line before giving away a penalty.  In a state of disarray
Lutterworth gave away an easy try as an alert fly-half took the quick
penalty and dived over the line.

Lutterworth full-back Danni Clissold was not to be caught off-guard
again and when Old Leams kicked, in a position similar to the one that
had previously resulted in a try, she was ready to receive it and made a
darting run, gaining at least 30 yards, a great pass, again to Ogden,
saw the centre finish the move off scoring under the posts. Berridge
again converted to take Lutterworth into the lead.

Old Leams last points came from their centre who benefited from a
mis-communication in Lutterworth's defensive line and scored from 10m
out.  Lutterworth had by now established that Old Leams experience was
indeed in their back line and changed their method of attack. The
remaining points were all scored through forwards, who dominated the
game throughout. A great break was made by hooker, Lucy Stephens,
beating several Old Leams backs to cross the line.  A well engineered
maul from a line out resulted in a try by prop Nicola Crick and the
final try of the game was scored by second row Felicity Booth,
converted by Berridge.

Final Score: 18-31
