LADIES TEAM Match Report
Sunday 7th December 2003
WRFU Midlands Division 2
Lutterworth Ladies: 3 V Greyhounds: 5
Having won their last two games by the narrowest of margins
Lutterworth's luck finally ran out with a narrow defeat by the visiting
Greyhound's side.
Lutterworth, currently third from bottom in the league were again
plagued by injuries as within 5 minutes of the beginning of the game,
having made, a now trademark, break through the defending centre's,
fly-half Helen Potter left the pitch with a broken collar bone, which if
it wasn't for a last ditch tackle would have certainly resulted in a
try. Lutterworth were awarded a penalty in front of the posts and Vicki
Berridge converted it to give Lutterworth an early lead.
Potter leaving the field resulted in several players playing out of
position, and Lutterworth facing the remainder of the game with only 14
players on the pitch.
However, the players left gave another gutsy performance, defending
fantastically well against a side which had a very strong back line who
showed great running and kicking skills. Just before half-time
Greyhound's outside centre, who had looked dangerous on a number of
occasions, finally penetrated the Lutterworth defence to claim a try in
the far corner.
The second-half saw Greyhound's fly-half missing 3 penalty attempts and
although Lutterworth began to fight back in the last 20 mins
unfortunately had left it too late as, despite exerting great pressure
on the Greyhound's defence through some strong running and support from
the forwards, the try line remained elusive.
Come and see Lutterworth WRFC play in the quarter final of the WRFU
National Challenge Cup at home against Angel's of the North on 14th
December, k.o 2pm
FINAL SCORE: 3-5
