LADIES TEAM Match Report
Midlands Division 2
Sunday 7th February 2004
Stoneygate WRFC 48
v Lutterworth WRFC 10
Lutterworth travelled the short
distance to local rivals and league
leaders Stoneygate. Lutterworth took control of the game from kick off,
keeping Stoneygate in their own half of the pitch for the first 20 mins.
Despite the odd flurry of snow Lutterworth managed to maintain
possession of the ball through some great rucking and having retained
possession for over ten phases of play the pressure proved too much for
Stoneygate who conceded a penalty. Second row, Felicity Booth, took the
penalty quickly and crashed over the line to put Lutterworth's first
points on the board, the conversion was missed by Vicki Berridge.
The remainder of the first half remained extremely tight with
Lutterworth battling to keep possession, despite being down to 14 women
for a sin binning offence by wing, Natalie Vickers, up front and
Stoneygate trying to spread the ball wide, through the evasive running
of their fly-half. Eventually Stoneygate began to make holes in
Lutterworth's defence and their fullback took advantage of the space she
was given to make a break and score in the far corner of the pitch.
The scoring then continued as over the next 40 minutes Stoneygate took
advantage of Lutterworth's inexperienced back line. Crunching tackles
were made by both teams but intelligent play saw Stoneygate take a clear
lead. Not a team to give up Lutterworth kept battling up front and
another penalty awarded for off-side, 5 metres from the Stoneygate line,
saw Zoe Frith cross to take Lutterworth's final points of the match.
Final Score: 48 - 10
