3rd Team Match Report
Saturday 11th October 2003
Stewarts & Lloyds 3rd XV 7pts v Lutterworth 3rd XV 17pts
Badly depleted through player unavailability & 2nd Team call ups the 3rds travelled to Corby with a much changed & patched up side including a colts contingent. Despite this disruption the team put in an excellent performance to come away with a win.
Lutts started the game in determined fashion with continued pressure throughout the first half from a dominant Lutts pack failing to break a resolute S&L defence. The half time break came with the score tied at 0-0, neither side being able to convert scoring opportunities.
Lutts forwards took complete control at the start of the 2nd half scoring two quick tries through powerful forward drives - one following a stolen lineout catch & drive & the other the result of another disruption of an S&L scrum. Ben Skinner & Ian Foulds getting the touchdowns. The home side however came back strongly, particularly in the loose play , and their threes who had looked dangerous throughout worked an excellent and deserved long range converted try. At 10-7 and with 10 mins to go the Lutts pack again put massive pressure on the opposition securing the win when they once again destroyed an S&L scrum winning the ball which was moved quickly down the line for Ben Stretton to break the defence for a try converted by Rod Llewellyn
Final Score 17-7 to Lutterworth
A excellent and committed team performance with the young colts Oliver Ralston, Chris Hammond, Ross Adams & Ben Stretton, who all had excellent games, deserving special praise.
