3rd Team Match Report

Saturday 8th November 2003

Lutterworth 3rd XV 40pts v Rushden & Higham 0 pts

Lutterworth proved to be too strong for the visitors  marking up a comfortable win scoring 7 tries in the process. Second Row Martin Holmes started the rout  after a sparkling run from, he thinks, about 50 yards out which proved irresistable to a dumbfounded Rushden defence. Unfortunately the over-excitement and elation caused by this remarkable score led to him retiring early – after 10 mins of the game – to take his place at the bar where he remained until closing time. Sub Rod Tranter forced to take up an unaccustomed position in the 2nd row also found the time &  energy to zip over for a try – two to the second rows ! The other lock Paul Blake,  much disgruntled at his own lack of scoring opportunities, being left to concentrate on the unglamorous work in a hard fought forward tussle

Flyhalf Doigy, fresh from a week’s rehab, kept the threequarters on the attack & overall good team support play kept the scoreboard ticking over with further tries from Ryan Charlton, John Irwin (2), and Rod Llewellyn who also managed to slide over a conversion and a penalty
