1st TEAM   Match Report

SATURDAY  31st January 2004

LEAGUE:  MIDLANDS 3 EAST (South)

LUTTERWORTH 1st XV: 8   STEWARTS & LLOYDS 1st XV: 17

Stewarts and Lloyds proved themselves more adaptable to the appalling weather conditions at Ashby Lane on Saturday. A gale force wind blowing the length of the pitch combined with a slippery and treacherous surface guaranteed that this would be a game of two halves.

Lutterworth won the toss and elected to play the first period against the wind. After forty minutes the home side had played well to have conceded only seven points by way of a converted try. However during the final few minutes of added time the home side were penalised in their own twenty two, during the confusion that followed S & L ran in a soft try which they converted with the last kick of the first half.

They second period was played almost entirely in the Corby side’s half but they defended stoutly and Lutterworth consistently failed to maintain possession and control. Centre, Tim Jeffs kicked one penalty and flanker, Adrian Sheasby ran in an opportunistic try, S & L replied with another penalty and Lutterworth finally ran out of steam with the final score 8 to 17.
