1st TEAM Match Report
SATURDAY 30th NOVEMBER 2003
LEAGUE: MIDLANDS 3 EAST (South)
LUTTERWORTH 1st XV: 35 STOCKWOOD PARK 1ST XV: 27
Ashby Lane was lashed by high winds and rain on Saturday and the advantage of playing with the strong wind allowed Stockwood Park to open the scoring with a converted try and remain in the lead all through the first period. At half time the score was 15 to 20, however throughout this season Lutterworth have shown the ability to win games from behind even when not playing to their full potential and the final score of 35 to 27 reflected the fact that the home side never looked liked losing this fast and hard fought contest.
Players’ ‘man of the match’, Tim Jeffs had an outstanding game in the centre, notching a hat trick of tries and kicking another ten points. Brothers Andrew and Dennis Hall grabbed a try apiece, Adam Conway celebrated his return from injury with a typical gritty and hardworking performance, stalwart lock, Ian Johnson seems to get better with each season despite rumours of his imminent retirement!
Next Saturday Lutterworth travel by Carl’s bus to fortress Peterborough to take on the joint league leaders in what promises to be an enthralling contest.
