1st TEAM   Match Report

SATURDAY  21st  February 2004

LEAGUE:  MIDLANDS 3 EAST (South)

Lutterworth 1st XV: 14pts    V    Wellingborough 1st XV:   29pts

Lutterworth started the game looking well in control and despite missing an early penalty attempt they took the lead after fifteen minutes with a try by winger Peter Wilson. Wilson dived onto the ball cleverly chipped over by scrum half Andrew Hall from the back of a twenty metre scrum. The home side went further in front after twenty minutes with a Jim Croucher drop goal. Wellingborough replied with a successful penalty attempt, which was matched by Lutterworth’s Tim Jeffs.  However as the game progressed it was clear that Lutterworth were running out of steam and the visitors were gaining momentum. Wellingborough prop, Shaun May, left a trail of missed tackles in his wake as he stormed over to score just before half time. The second half belonged to the visitors, who notched up three more tries and two conversions against a single penalty score by Jeffs. This was a disappointing and lacklustre performance from Lutterworth who must now pick themselves up for the remainder of the season to ensure a top three finish.
