POWERGEN INTERMEDIATE CUP
LUTTERWORTH 1st XV 54pts PERSHORE 1ST XV 21pts
This season Ashby Lane is fast becoming the place not to be for visiting sides. After the comprehensive demolition of Leighton Buzzard in last week’s league game, Lutterworth this Saturday thrashed Pershore (who play at the same level in West 3) by 54 points to 21.
Pershore opened the scoring with an early converted try, this was the wake up call for Lutterworth’s sleeping giants, the front five of Stevens, Riley, Wilford, Husthwaite and Conway who dominated the game. At half time Lutterworth had built up a formidable 39 to 7 lead, another try after the break meant that the home side had racked up 44 unanswered points. Pershore although down were not out and there were periods of play that required massive defence from Lutterworth, key man in defence was number six, Dave Stannard who was named as ‘man of the match’. Prop, Marcus Stevens notched one try, Winger, Charlie Roberson, two, one for flanker Simon Deacon with Skipper, Dennis Hall adding four more. Dennis has now collected nine tries in three games and continues as Captain to be the new found inspiration in Lutterworth’s outstanding form so far this season. Phil Daffern, was picked out by Coach, Dave Turner as the man to watch this season, with another impressive performance on the wing.
