1st TEAM Match Report
SATURDAY 30th NOVEMBER 2003
LEAGUE: MIDLANDS 3 EAST (South)
PETERBOROUGH 1st XV: 53 LUTTERWORTH 1st XV: 7
Losing a wheel off the coach on the way home was an apt conclusion for Lutterworth whose wheels came off very early in this top of the table clash. Despite the usual gritty performance by the Lutterworth front five, ‘Boro were superior in every department of the game and subjected the away side to a try scoring spree notching up 36 unanswered points in the first half. Although the Peterborough forwards did not dominate they certainly had the best of the set pieces and allowed Lutterworth very little possession. Peterborough’s first try after only three minutes set the scene for the afternoon when their number twelve broke through scattering defenders in all directions to score under the posts. All the home side backs proceeded to dip their bread against lack lustre Lutterworth whose afternoon was a procession of missed tackles and basic errors. The only crumb of consolation for the faithful away supporters was a second half try from Adam Conway, converted by Jim Croucher.
Lutterworth will be looking for a dramatic return to form in two weeks time when they travel to beleaguered bottom side Rushden and Higham.
