Lutterworth Ladies Team
Lutterworth Women's Rugby Club, was formed in 1999 and since their formation the team has gone from strength to strength. Lutterworth's most successful season saw them as winners of the North Challenge Cup, finalists in the National Challenge Cup and, also, promoted to Midlands Division 2 all in one season.
Recent seasons have been a turbulent time for Lutterworth Ladies with a succession of injuries and a change of coaching team in the middle, the girls had a tough fight to get to the top. With a new found spirit they managed to finish a gallant second place in the league and saw promotion to Midlands One.
The team is now going from strength to strength with a lot of new interest in girls wanting to join our team. A strong and committed coaching staff is ready and waiting for pre-season training, with the committee already sorted the team is raring to go.
So what’s the secret behind
Lutterworth's success?
Dedication - of both players and the coaching team. Due to their location
Lutterworth does not benefit from links with a local university side,as many
teams in the region do. Instead players are recruited locally from all walks of
life currently ranging from Hair Dressers to Farmers, Policewomen to Students,
Managers to Mums. The majority of players have been playing for less than two
years. Lutterworth are always looking for new (or existing) players to come up
to the club and give rugby a go.
Think you are too small to
play? Still think that Rugby is only played by big, burly, pint-swilling
women. Well, maybe we do like a drink after the game but the preferred
tipple of most of the team is an alco-pop! and most of our players weigh less
than 10 stone (ok, there are a couple of us that can only dream!)
So come down to training and have a go.
Training is on Wednesday evenings and we like everyone changed and out on the pitch for 7pm at the Rugby Club - or alternatively come and watch a match or training session and see what you are missing out on.
